Additional safety notes with regard to working
with wire brushes
Remember that wire brushes will lose wires even
under normal operating conditions. Do not expose
the wires to excessive downward pressure. Flying
pieces of wire can easily penetrate thin clothing
and/or the skin.
If the use of a protective hood is recommended,
ensure that the hood and the wire brush are not
able to touch each other. Plate and cup brushes
may increase in diameter as a result of downward
pressure and centrifugal forces.

Operating and safety notes for grinding tools with diamonds or
boron nitride, supporting discs and cup brushes
WARNING! In order to reduce the risk of injury: Read the operating and safety notes carefully
before you use the grinding agent for the first time. These operating and safety notes should
also be forwarded to other users of the item.
Ensure that other people are kept at a safe distance
to the area in which you are working. Anyone who
enters the working area should be wearing personal
protective gear. Pieces of the workpiece or broken
tools may be thrown up and cause injury even outside
the immediate working area.
Keep the main power cable away from rotating tools.
If you loose control of the unit, the power cable may
be cut or caught up and your hand or arm may be
pulled into the rotating tool.
Never set the power tool down before the tool insert
has come to a complete standstill. The rotating tool
insert may come into contact with the resting surface
and cause you to lose control of the power tool.
Never operate the power tool while you are carrying
it. Your clothes may be accidentally caught in the
rotating tool insert and the insert may injure you.
Never use the power tool in the vicinity of flammable
materials. Sparks may set fire to these materials.
Additional safety notes for all applications
Kickback and appropriate safety notes
Kickback is the sudden reaction that follows on from
a stuck or blocked rotating tool insert, such as a
sanding disc, sanding plate, wire brush etc. Kickback
is the result of incorrect or faulty use of the power
tool. It can be prevented by the use of suitable safety
measures, as described below.
Hold the power tool securely with both hands and
position your body and arms in such a way that
you are able to absorb any kickback. Always use
an additional handle, if available, to ensure you
have the greatest possible level of control over the
kickback forces or reaction torque when starting
up. The operator is able to control kickback and
reaction forces by means of the appropriate safety
measures.
Never bring your hand close to the rotating tool
insert. The tool insert may move over your hand in
the event of kickback.
Position your body in such a way that it is not
located where the power tool is likely to kickback
to. The kickback will push the power tool in the
direction opposite to the movement of the disc at the
blockage point.
Be especially careful around corners, sharp edges
etc. Prevent insert tools from bouncing off the
workpiece and becoming jammed. The rotating tool
insert tends to become jammed at corners, sharp
edges or when it bounces. This will lead to a loss of
control or kickback.
Additional safety notes for diamond cutting discs
• Use only for cutting! Not for roughing!
• Not suitable for metal! Risk of injury! Cutting and
cooling
• Always install cutting discs so that they are centred
laterally and with regard to height
• Do not move backwards and forwards within the
material, instead draw through steadily
• To prevent the risk of cracks in the core or segment
break outs, only work at a right angle and on a
straight axis.
• Do not apply too much grinding pressure. The
weight of the machine itself is sufficient
• When using diamond cutting discs, ensure that you
maintain appropriate cooling times. Depending on
the cutting performance, cut type and the material
to be processed, these may deviate. Due to these
many factors, the user should plan sufficient breaks
for cooling.
Caution! Diamond cutting discs become very hot
when in use. Only touch the disc when wearing
protective gloves and after it has cooled down.
pertaining to the grinding tool and the machine
manufacturer.
• Grinding tools and brushes may only be used with
tools that have the appropriate tool holder.
• After each fitting, a test run should be carried out
for a suitable period of time during which the
indicated maximum working speed (revolutions) of
the grinding tool or brush should not be exceeded.
Grinding operation (and/or, if relevant, abrasive
cutting operation)
• Observe the user information provided by the tool
manufacturer.
• Prior to use, affix all protective mechanisms to the
machine.
• Do not work without securing the machine with the
protective mechanisms.
• Use personal protective equipment in accordance
with the machine and type of application, for
example, goggles or face masks, ear defenders,
breathing mask, protective shoes, protective gloves
and other protective clothing.
• Only carry out grinding operations indicated as
suitable for the grinding tool (observe the
restrictions on use, safety notes or other
specifications).
• When abrasive cutting using a hand-held grinder,
guide the grinding tool straight into the separating
split, do not tilt the hand-held grinder.
• Switch the hand-held grinder off and wait until it has
come to a standstill before putting the tool down on
a workbench or the floor.
Safety notes for all applications
Common safety notes for sanding, sanding with
sandpaper, working with wire brushes, polishing
and abrasive cutting:
Do not use accessories that have not been designed
and recommended by the manufacturer for use with
this power tool. Just because you can affix an
accessory to your power tool, there is no guarantee it
is safe to use.
The permitted revolutions of the tool insert must be at
least as high as the highest revolutions specified on
the power tool. Accessories that rotate faster than is
permitted may break and fly away.
The external diameter and thickness of the tool insert
must match the dimensions of your power tool.
Incorrectly measured tool inserts cannot be properly
protected or checked.
Sanding discs, flange, sanding plate or other
accessories must fit precisely onto the sanding
spindle of your power tool. Tool inserts that do not fit
precisely to the sanding spindle of the power tool will
rotate unevenly, vibrate very heavily and may lead to
a loss of control.
Do not use damaged tool inserts. Before each use,
check the tool inserts such as sanding discs for splits
and tears, sanding plates for tears, wear or
weaknesses, wire brushes for lose or broken wires. If
the power tool or tool insert is dropped, check to make
sure it is not damaged, or use an undamaged tool
insert. After checking and mounting the tool insert,
make sure that you and anybody else in the vicinity are
outside the vicinity of the rotating tool insert and allow
the tool to rotate at top speed for a minute.
Wear personal protective gear. Depending on the
application, use full face protection, visor or goggles.
Where appropriate, wear dust protection masks, ear
defenders, protective gloves or special aprons to
keep the tiny grinding and material particles away.
The eyes should be protected from the flying objects
that are generated by the various applications. Dust
or breathing masks should be capable of filtering dust
when the unit is used for a purpose during which dust
is generated. If you are exposed to loud noises for a
longer period of time, your hearing may suffer.
• Before transporting the machine, remove the
diamond cutting disc to prevent damages.
Additional safety notes with regard to sanding and
abrasive cutting
Use only grinding tools expressly permitted for
use with your power tool and the appropriate
protective hood for these grinding tools. Grinding
tools which are not designed for use with the power
tool cannot be properly shielded and are unsafe.
The protective hood must be affixed securely to
the power tool and set in such a way that it
ensures the maximum level of safety possible, i.e.
the smallest possible area of the grinding tool is
exposed to the operator. The protective hood
should protect the operator from broken pieces and
accidental contact with the grinding tool.
Grinding tools may only be used for the
recommended applications. For example: Never
sand using the side surface of a cutting wheel.
Cutting wheels are designed to remove material with
the edge of the disc. Lateral forces working on these
grinding tools may break them.
Always use undamaged tensioning flanges in the
correct size and shape for the sanding disc you
have selected. Suitable flanges support the sanding
disc and thus reduce the danger of the disc breaking.
Flanges for cutting wheels may differ from flanges for
other sanding discs.
Additional safety notes with regard to abrasive
cutting
Avoid blocking the cutting wheel or employing too
great a pressure. Do not execute any excessively
deep cuts. Overloading the cutting wheel increases
the wear and the tendency to tilt or block and thus
the possibility of kick back or breaking of the grinding
tool.
Avoid the area in front and behind the rotating
cutting wheel. If you move the cutting wheel away
from you within the tool, in the event of the power tool
kicking back, the turning wheel may be thrown in your
direction.
If the cutting wheel blocks or you stop working,
switch the unit off and hold it still until the wheel
has come to a standstill. Never attempt to pull a
running cutting wheel out of the cut, this may
cause kick back. Work out and eliminate the cause
of the blockage.
Do not switch the power tool back on with it still in
the workpiece. Wait until the cutting wheel has
reached the full revolutions before you carefully
continue with the cut. Otherwise the wheel may get
caught, jump out of the workpiece or cause kick
back.
Support boards or large workpieces to reduce the
risk of kickback caused by a jammed cutting
wheel. Large workpieces may bend under their own
weight. The workpiece should be supported on both
sides of the disc, both in the vicinity of the cut and at
the edge.
Be particularly careful when carrying out a
"plunge cut" into an existing wall or an area you
can't see into. The plunging cutting wheel may hit
gas or water pipes, electrical cables or other objects
and cause kick back.
Additional safety notes with regard to sandpaper
grinding
Do not use over-dimensioned sand paper sheets,
follow the manufacturer specification regarding
size. Sheets that extend beyond the sanding plate
may cause injury or lead to blocking, tearing of the
sheets or to kickback.
