The device is not intended for use in outdoor areas and wet rooms .
The installation of the CO-sensor should not be used as a substitute for proper installation, use and maintenance of fuel burning appliances
including appropriate ventilation and exhaust systems.
Every remote silencing must be used in line of sight of the CO-sensor.
Warranty void if housing opened by unauthorized person.
Connect only to suitable supply voltage [KNX bus voltage (nominal voltage 29V)].
The electronic circuit is protected against a wide range of external influences.
Incorrect operating may occur if external influences exceeds certain limits!
Installation and assembly of electrical equipment must be in accordance with national building, electrical and safety codes!
Defective devices / sensors have to be put out of service immediately!
Note the regulations and instructions in the ZVEI/ZVEH handbook (building system technology).
In particular, the proper wiring and initial operation of the KNX system must be carried-out accordingly.
General points about carbon monoxide
Installation
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless and non-irritating gas which can
quickly become a deadly threat. The first indications of a small concentration of
carbon monoxide in the room might be mild headache, tiredness, dizziness and
nausea. Most of the carbon monoxide in the environment is created during the
combustion process of carbonic material, for example:
Solid fuels (e.g. coal, coke, wood)
Liquid fuels (e.g. oil, petrol)
Gaseous fuels (e.g. natural gas, city gas, liquefied petroleum gas)
Carbon monoxide can have the following consequential effects on the human
body:
Concentration CO
Effects*
200 ppm
Mild headache, tiredness, dizziness and nausea after 2 to
3 hours.
400 ppm
Headache in the fore head within 1 to 2 hours, life-
threatening after 3 hours
800 ppm
Dizziness, nausea and convulsions within 45 minutes.
Life-threatening after 2 hours
1.600 ppm
Headache, dizziness and nausea within 20 minutes.
Unconsciousness within 2 hours, dead within 1 hours
possible.
3.200 ppm
Headache, dizziness and nausea within 5 to 10 minutes.
Dead within 25 to 30 minutes.
*acc. to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration))
The CO-sensor should be ideally installed in following rooms:
Rooms with combustion devices
In every room in which people spend long periods of time
In every bedroom
In case of several combustion devices but only a few amount of
CO-sensors the following criteria should be taken into account when
installing the devices:
It should be installed in rooms without a smoke outlet or with
an open smoke outlet.
It should be installed in rooms where occupants spend most
of their time.
In a 1-room-appartment the CO-sensor need to be installed as far as
possible from the cooking area, but as close as possible to the
sleeping place. If there is a combustion device in a less frequently
used room (e.g. boiler room), the CO-sensor should be installed in a
range where the acoustic signal is clearly audible. An alarm siren can
be installed and actuated alternatively.
Not suitable places are:
Where functioning is affected
(e.g. behind furniture, curtain or shelves)
Directly above a drain
Nearby a door or window
Nearby an exhaust fan
Nearby an air exhauster or similar air vents
In wet and humid environment
In areas where the ambient temperature is not
within the specified range
In dusty, dirty and greasy places
In close proximity to the cooking range
Carbon monoxide tends to rise up in the room until it cooled down. At a wall installation it should be mounted close
to the ceiling and in a height above all doors and windows. The minimum distance to the ceiling is 150mm.
A ceiling installation should provide a distance of minimum 300 mm between CO-sensor and wall. It should have a
horizontal distance between 1m and 3m from the potential source and if there are room dividers the device should
be placed in the part of the room where the potential source of carbon monoxide is located.
In rooms with slanted ceilings the device should be installed on the higher side of the ceiling.
In bedrooms and in rooms which are located far away from combustion devices (e.g. hallways, or stairways), the
device should be at the breathing level of the occupants.
Assembly
Disconnect device from power supply for wiring and installation purposes!
Check power supply is disconnected!
This device is suitable for wall mounting or for mounting on a flush-mounting box.
Ensure that no dust gets inside of the device.
After initial startup, the device requires up to 10 seconds until the first correct
measurement is possible.
STEP 1:
Open the device with a small screw driver by pushing in the lever at the
bottom of the housing and gently remove the front cover.
STEP 2:
Fix the rear cover, either directly to the wall or on a flush-mounting box
(see installation notes)
STEP 3:
After wiring, press the learn button” to set the device into programming
mode (this can be done later on as well)
STEP 4:
After completing the installation, the front cover must be reattached
Status and alarm signals
The CO-sensor has 3 optical LEDs as indicators for Alarm, „Error andPower. The status for
Alarm and Error will be accompanied by an acoustical signal as described in the table below.
Functionstand-alone
The CO-sensor can be used without any ETS-configuration while power supply is connected
(KNX-bus voltage).
The status will be signaled as follows:
Status
Acoustical signal
„ALARM“
(red LED)
„ERROR“
(yellow LED)
„POWER“
(green LED)
Ready

Alarm
ON (continuous tone)

-
Fault
2x tone per minute
(synchronic with LED)
-

(synchronic with tone)
Failure

Status Failure
The device can still be used in the status Failure. Just note that in this case the
measured CO-value might deviate from CO-value in the room.
Status Fault
Every hour the CO-Sensor carries-out a self-test. If there is any error occurring
during this test, the device will change to status Fault”.
„Alarm“- conditions
Following fix alarm conditions are valid:
CO concentration
No alarm within
Alarm after
30 ppm
120 min.
-
50 ppm
60 min.
90 min.
100 ppm
10 min.
40 min.
300 ppm
-
3 min.
Test function
By means of the test function the LEDs and the acoustic signal can be
tested.
It can be activated by the binary input, the micro switch „T/R“ or the
communication object test function
The test function can be started if the alarm condition is not active and there
is no sensor error (status Fault”).
The test takes approx. 10 seconds. During this period all LEDs are ON and
there is a specific audible alarm sequence.
If the T/R - function is activated during an alarm and the CO concentration
is <50 ppm, the alarm and data count will be reset.
The acoustic signal is of big intensity!
If the acoustic signal is deactivated via ETS, then there will be no
acoustic signal!
