Agatha Crane is attempting a code puzzle using her lore ().

learns two of the guessed numbers exist in the code but only
one is correctly positioned.
2. Agatha needs more information, so she inputs a second
guess of “234.” A single indicates one of the guessed
numbers exists in the code but is not correctly positioned.
From this, she learns that there is a “1” in the code but not
a “4.” She also knows the code contains a “2” or a “3” but
not both.

She wants to know if the code contains a “2” or a “3” so she
inputs a third guess of “222” which yields zero results. She
now knows the code contains a “3” and not a “2.”
4.
Knowing there is a “1” and a “3,” Agatha guesses “135.”
At last! ree indicate that all three numbers exist in
the code though none of them are correctly positioned.
5.
Agatha reviews what she has learned so far. She notices the
“1” in her rst guess is in the same position as the “1” in her
most recent guess. is means the “1” must account for the
from the rst set of results, and the “3” must have been
correctly positioned. With the “3” in the third position, the
“1” must belong in the second position since it does not
belong in the rst position. is leaves only the rst position
for the “5.”
Agatha inputs her nal guess of “513” and solves the puzzle.
